Its snowing again.
Today lets talk about Harvesting Compost. There are quite a few different ways of harvesting compost. Today we shall discuss two of them.
1 Multiple piles- No advanceed preparation needed, but this way takes the longest A. Dump the contents of your bin on to a tarp, table or work bench, separate into multiple piles. B wait a while , while the worms are burrowing in to the pile away from the light. Sun, Light bulb, etc. Remove just the tops of the piles and wait awhile longer and remove the tops again. By the time you are down to the last pile, the worms in the first pile will have had time to burrow down. C Repeat this process until you have a ball of worms at the bottom of each pile and a little or no compost.
2 Side to side- Some advanced preparation is needed, but its quicker than option #1 A Move the contents of the bin to one side,of the bin and add fresh bedding and food to the other side. B A month or so later, most of the worms will have moved to the side with the new bedding and food is and then you can use method #1 to separate the few worms that are left.
Tomorrow will shall discuss furthter options.
Remember FEED ALL OF YOUR GARBAGE TO YOUR WORMS AND STARVE THE LANDFILL. THIS WILL HELP REDUCE THE METANE GAS GIVEN OFF BY YOUR LANDFILL.
