Today we shall continue our discussion on Harvesting Compost.
The third way to harvest compost is the top down method, this is a variation of the side to side method.
3 Cut a trash bag open ( so its a single sheet), poke holes with a pen or pencil. b Place the trash bag over a new bin thats been prepared a week or so in advance with the food and bedding. It needs to have microbes for this to work. c Dump the old bin on top of the trash bag and let sit for a few days. d. The majority of the worms will have burrowed down into the new bin, looking for food. You can speed up this process by placing a light over it You can use anything with holes large enough for the worms to crawl thru.
4 Stacking if youhavent bought a stacking system by now. You can make your own. a.Poke holes in a plastic container, your new bin b. Place it on top of your old bin so the compost is in contact with the bottom of the new bin.c. Feed only the top bin, after a few weeks, most of the worms will be in the top bin.
If anybody knows of any other way to do this, please let us know.
